ok.  so i haven't updated in a long while, and you know why that is?  because i'm bored with it.  that's it.  the whole "xanga scene" is just soooooooo 2003.  i know i had a mystery lyric game going on, but that was kind of a pain to run and i would usually only get a couple guesses anyway.  so...yeah.

here's the last mystery lyric (in honor of st. patrick's day... that's how long ago it was since i updated!)
They threw a rope around yer neck
To watch you dance the jig of death
Then left ya for the starvin' crows
Hoverin' like hungry whores
the answer?  FLOGGING MOLLY - SALTY DOG!  of course, i had to do a flogging molly lyric.  sarah was the first (and only--see what i mean?) guess, and she got it right, earning 10 points, plus 5 bonus "last lyric" points.  so here's the new standings:

sarah - 27
steph - 24
bobby - 21
todd - 11
bryce - 10
johnny - 10
me - 6 (bonus points from bobby)
brian - 2
hawks - 1

and it looks like sarah is the winner!  good work sarah, you win bragging rights for...well, until i do another Mystery Lyric Game...so probably forever.  sorry, steph.

i've got another blog site for you all to check out if you want, it will be updated rather more sporadically than this one, and will probably be more of the "random musings" variety, rather than the "weekly update" type.  it's at
http://www.the-drifters.blogspot.com/

welp, that's it for me and this site!  it's been 2 years, 4 months, and one day since i started this page... kinda seems like a shame to abandon just b/c i'm bored with it, but then...it IS only a free online journal page.  the new one's cooler anyway, it let's me post pictures!

this is nick V, aka William Quilliam, signing off

PEACE OUT!

WOOO HOOO!  SPRING BREAK!!! YEAH!

oh, that was last week.  sorry.  it's cool though, cuz i'll still give you the old "spring break update" i'm sure you all have been waiting for.  and oh yeah... gots ta do the Mystery Lyric Game!  i KNOW some of you have been waiting for an update to that one, b/c i've gotten several annoyed IMs.

anyway, spring break!  yessss!  it was very sweet, if somewhat colder than typical.  kelly's parents have a place up near gaylord, and they were nice enough (or perhaps foolish enough) to let kelly invite some friends up there for spring break.  insofar as i am dating kelly's best friend, and that i'm an all-around cool guy, i headed up there with abbey, kelly, and their friends craig and john in abbeys mom's suburban.  when we left birmingham it was 52 F.
abbey was driving, and although we made it to the cottage safely, some of us (kelly) had issues with abbey's style of driving.  this style could best be described as "lucky."  i'm not saying she's an unsafe driver...but it's lucky we didn't hit anyone.
anyway, after hitting the grocery store...and the liquor store (hopps 'n' schnapps), we arrived at the house around 730.  unpacking and dinner preparations ensued, and kelly's boyfriend ryan arrived just as we were sitting down.  i won't give you a blow-by-blow of the whole night or week like this, i just wanted to keep you all up to date on who the characters are.  anyway, we partied a little on monday night and went to bed.

for the first time in several months, i slept past 11 tuesday morning, which was excellent.  a pankake breakfast/lunch was supposed to fuel us for an evening of skiing, but when we arrived the place was deserted.  literally no one there.  no big deal, it was only a 15 minute drive (past Michigan Spine & Pain).  so we went to wal-mart so ryan & john could get swim trunks.
back at the ranch, we went to the clubhouse of the golfcourse that the house is on, and rocked it in the pool and hot tub (holy run-on sentence, batman!).  it was hell of cool, but the hot tub only tired us out more...which was odd since all we'd done all day was sit around.  anyway, ryan and craig had bought a remote-control boat at wal-mart, and were playing with it in the pool... a little too close to kelly...and kelly's long hair...and there was a bit of a "snag" involving her hair and the boat's propeller.  i'm talking major, "get the scissors" type tangle...except abbey apparently is very talented with hair snags cuz kelly was free in like 2 minutes once abbey got there.  after the pool we went home and showered, then went to La Seniorita for dinner.  post-dinner, we basically went home and hung out for a few hours before bed.  then went to bed.

wednesday was skiing at boyne mountain all day.  on our way out, however, someone accidentally locked the wrong door and we found ourselves locked out.  luckily an upstairs window was open, and it was up to yours truly to navigate the snowy, icy roof and save the day (boo-ya).
anyway, we got there around 1230 and skied till about 830.  and that's pretty solid skiing, too... there was maybe 100-150 customers at any point in the day.  abbey/kelly's friend tom had come up for the day, and we met up with jenny and doc at boyne, so now our number was 9...just so you know.  skiing was fun, i fell a lot but got better as the day wore on.  it was very cold and windy... roughly 15 F with winds up to 30 mph... ugh.  ryan and john had never skied before so we had a good time waving at them from the chairlift...distracting them enough that they'd usually fall.  i could go on about skiing, but they're basically all "i skied this, she jumped that, abbey broke her binding" kind of stuff.  after skiing it was a quick shower and then party time.  on the drive home from boyne, the temp was a whopping 2 F, bringing the temp range for the trip to 50 degrees!  yesssssss!  that's more than the average annual range in lansing (44 degrees)!

as there were only 9 of us, and not enough people to call it a rager, we played drinking jenga (courtesy of miss parks) all night.  the problem with drinking while playing jenga, of course, is that your fine motor control goes right out the window after a few rounds.  add to that the "shit cup"--a horrible mixture of everyone's drinks--and various instructions such as "take off your pants" (doubly funny when we're sitting at a glass table...craig), and you've got potential for an interesting night.  and interesting it was!  pen tattoos, assigned kissing, made-up songs, and dances abounded.

thursday was going to be more skiing at Treetops during the day, then night skiing (for $1.01, thanks to a radio promotion) at Otsego Country Club.  unfortunately, Treetops was once again deserted.  driving back, my breakfast of eggs/hash browns/sausage began to be unhappy with its new residence in my stomache and decided to come up for some air.  i was all "no way!" but it was adamant, so out it came on the side of the road.  ugh.  anyway, i felt better after that, and we just hung around till about 330.  night skiing at Otsego was cheap and relatively fun.  it's no boyne, and sadly it was no cannonsburg either, b/c they only had the front two lifts open.  supposedly there's a lot of good skiing in the back during the day, but only the front is lit, thus limiting night skiing.  anyway, it was a good time for a few hours, then we left.  after a quick soak in the hot tub and pool, back to the house for our "last night of spring break '05 let's mix it up because it's spring break party!"  tom had left in the morning, so it was just the 8 of us, and after an interesting round of "the mystery name game" and some debate over whether we should play drinking hide-and-go-seek (drink till we find you!), we settled on charades, which got more and more rediculous as the night wore on.  we finally went to bed around 4am, except for craig, who slept on the couch till like 9, i guess.

hang on, i gotta go to class.  i'll finish this in a couple hours.

ok!  so i'm back.  so i left off thursday night after going to bed...friday was basically hanging out, packing up and driving back to birmingham.  abbey and i hung out at her parent's house till sunday morning, then headed back to EL, which was, as always, lame.  that's not true, EL is often cool... but going back to school after spring break is lame.

so now it's wednesday, and burgerama has been moved to today b/c tomorrow is st. patrick's day!  wheee!  so we're going to the riv in a little bit for some dinner and drinking refreshing beverages.  but before i do that, it's time for the Mystery Lyric Game update you've all been waiting for!!!

the lyric was:
I am just a raindrop that accelerates without control
Losing bits and pieces in descent 'til I'm no longer whole
the answer was....PHISH - ANYTHING BUT ME!  steph was the first and only person to get this one right, though bryce and hawks both guessed "anatomy of a raindrop," for some reason.  anyway, steph gets 10 points and...say...3 bonus points for being the only one to get the first phish lyric right.  so here's the standings:

steph - 24
bobby - 21
sarah - 12
todd - 11
bryce - 10
johnny - 10
me - 6 (bonus points from bobby)
brian - 2
hawks - 1

ho-ha!  steph in the lead!  brian and hawks are still in line for a punch from me if i beat them, so youse guys better get on with it.  anyway, that's all i've got for now, there's a new lyric up, this one's in honor of st. patty's day tomorrow, so give 'er a guess.

dae de dae de dae!  i mean...peace out!

sunday, sunday, SOMEDAY!

that's right, sportsfans!  it's sunday, and you all know what that means:  an update from NIXXX!!!!  ok, so i haven't exactly been regularly updating, but such is life.  what do i mean by that, you ask?  simply that life isn't exactly regular or predictable, and when it starts getting that way it's time for a change!
anyway, what's been going on in eastlansingtown....

on wednesday abbey, morgan and i went to harper's for 1/2 off night.  we met up with some of abbey's friends there...blah blah blah, harper's on wednesday.  you all know the drill.  i guess many of you DON'T know the drill, not being of age/from MSU...  joke's on you, i'm not gonna explain it.  anyway, MJ from "The Real World" was there... that was the *big deal* of the night... i'm sure you can all tell that i was just about bouncing out of my boxers to talk to him, but sadly i didn't get the chance.  abbey's friend dave, however, chatted for a moment and asked a rather lurid question....to which he recieved an honest and humerous answer.  i won't post such crassness here, but if your brain is in the gutter, IM me and i'll tell you.

thursday night found me napping, only to awake to phone call after phone call hounding me to go out.  todd wanted to go to Burgerama at the Riv, morgan was rocking the karaoke at Crunchy's, jacki and sarah were jonesing for bull riding at Cactus Juice.  i was a bit rude to jacki when she called, being the fourth call in the space of 10 minutes after i awoke... but i'm sure she's over it by now
but the joke was on all of them, i decided to spend the evening in with my lovely lady friend.  we watched I  Huckabee's and had a good old time.  i definitely reccomend Huckabee's, it's a lot like Royal Tennenbaum's, mixed with Rushmore...but with Marky Mark and Jude Law.  and Lilly Tomlin (who is hilarious...<jumps over sprinkler> "damn!")

friday...oh, friday.  i had to work till 9, and when i got home ninja/jacki/tracy/roomate were playing quarters in the kitchen... so i knew some kinda interesting-ness was going down.  after changing out of my work clothes i headed out to join them and have dinner.  eventually brian showed up (i don't think i'd seen him since new year's so that was cool), and the party kicked up yet another notch.  todd and tony rounded out the group, and the party migrated all around the house, focusing on ninja's room and the kitchen.
back in the kitchen, brian knocked over ninja's plant (by now ninja/tracy/roomate had left for the riv) and did a piss-poor job cleaning it up, so we punished him by making him drink more... which continued while we played drinking poker for an hour or two...until brian decided he didn't want any more and would just drink water...which we made him pour all over himself...along with his left over drink.  we started watching 2 fast/2 furious, but i fell asleep about 10 minutes into it (no surprise there!)
abbey had come back from birmingham to hang out but had missed the party (by now it was about 330)...when i woke up and went to bed i saw that *someone* had drawn all over brian's face with a sharpie a-la 10 Things I Hate About You.  pretty sweet.

waking up saturday was great, especially since it occured at 8am.  for no reason.  i didn't have to work until 4.  but i woke up at 8.  ugh.  nothing like getting 4 hours of sleep for an excellent time!  ah, well.  i hung out with abbey in the afternoon till work...and then i went to work.
saturday night was just a chill night, todd came over and we watched Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinkin' Your Juice In The Hood...which is not great.  funny, yes.  smart, noooooo....  it's a wayan's bros. movie, so you know what you're getting into at least.

anywho, today was another working day, and here i am once again updating my site on a sunday night!  i'm in a good mood, listening to a sweet phish show, full from a good dinner, and just being sweet.  but i'm not quite done yet, we've still gotta do Mystery Lyric Game results!

the lyric was:
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass, they slip away
and i'm sure most of you know that the correct answer is...THE BEATLES - ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, off of Let It Be!  i got lots of responses for this one, and lots of people were pleased to see it.  in fact, bryce even offered me 1/2 bonus point, he liked it so much.  i won't be accepting it, however... i don't feel i deserve it for an obvious lyric such as this one.  it's a great song and a great lyric, but i don't think i deserve bonus points for posting it.
anyway...who was the winner, you ask?  well it was a tough one to call...sarah answered first but said "across A universe," which is basically the same but not quite right.  she did however know the album.  bryce was next with the correct title and album...and like everything else about the damn song.  i feel bad totally slighting sarah since she obviously knew the song, but at the same time she wasn't RIGHT... so she gets the Album Bonus Points, and bryce gets the full 10 points.  other late guessers, in order, were hawks, snora, and luke.  so the new standings are as follows:

bobby - 21
sarah - 12
steph - 11
todd - 11
bryce - 10
johnny - 10
me - 6 (bonus points from bobby)
brian - 2
hawks - 1

so there you go again, on your own!  going down the only road you've ever known... like a stranger, you were born to guess your lyrics alone!

too much?  yeah...  okay, peace out.

hey HEY hay!  nick is back with a brand new edition.

so this week's Mystery Lyric got WAY more responses than the last one!  good work, all of you, for not allowing Mystery Lyric Game to die (yet)!  we'll get to the results in a bit, but first it's time for my usual "what nick's been up to" section.  i mean, this site is referred to my "ramblings" page, i should at least ramble a little bit.

thursday night abbey, morgan and i went to crunchy's for some excellent beverages and karaoke-ing.  we got there around 930, and thankfully there was no line, cuz it was COLD!  jacki and tony eventually met us there, along with adam and some others.  it was a very good time, we basically were the party at crunchy's for most of the evening.  abbey sang "something to talk about," as usual, and tony/morgan/abbey/i sang blues travellers "run around."  the only problem with "run around" is that when they started the music, the lyrics didn't play!  so they tried to fix it, but to no avail.  "no problem", says abbey...."i know all the words anyway!"  i know pretty much all the words too, so it was basically abbey and me singing the whole dang thing from memory, and tony and morgan singing the chorus.  it was sweet though.
after crunchy's, we went back to abbey's and got dressed for a "dress to get screwed" party.  you may recall the concept from the movie "the rules of attraction," and if so, you would have been dissappointed at this party.  few people were dressed for the theme, and there was little dancing (or refreshments, for that matter).  we stayed for an hour or so and bust back to abbey's.

the weekend was fairly uneventful, i worked friday/saturday/sunday, and pretty much just hung out the rest of the time.  it was snowing pretty hard for most of sunday, and i hoped we'd have some sort of school interruption, but of course we only got like 4 inches.  apparently the east side of the state got like a foot, and had a snow day... ugh.

anyway, i'm gonna head to the riv, i'll do the Mystery Lyric Game update later tonight or tomorrow.
PEACE OUT!  (9:30 pm)

....AAAAAAAAAAND i'm back.  (1:15 am)
so the riv was fun, ninja and i met todd there around 945, and had several wonderful beverages.  abbey met us there around 1030, and we all partied down for a couple hours.  i am now back home, trying to burn some time until the second showing of Adult Swim comes on.  anyway, until then, let's bust out the Mystery Lyric results!

the lyric was:
And if the world does turn, and if London burns
I'll be standing on the beach with my guitar
the answer?  well, it was RADIOHEAD - ANYONE CAN PLAY GUITAR, of course!  it's off the album Pablo Honey, and this lyric was well-recieved, overall... i had several guesses, but the first correct one was STEPH!  steph gets 10 points, plus one "sexy bonus point."  sarah was the next guesser, but she was incorrect.  her guess was "playing my guitar again," which was of course incorrect.  brian was our first guesser that knew the album title, so i'll give him the two "album points," which will get him on the board (finally).  other correct answers were given by billy (no surprise) and hawks (fairly surprising, given his relatively young age for this album--he was four years old when it was released).  neither will get any points, however, as they were both too slow on the buzzer.  so here's the CURRENT STANDINGS:

bobby - 21
todd - 11
steph - 11
johnny - 10
sarah - 10
me - 6 (bonus points from bobby)
brian - 2
hawks - 1

all right!  good work, kiddos!  till next time, this is your host, alphonse picasso, saying "be excellent to each other...and:  PARTY ON, DUDES!"

Wednesday, February 16, 2005

man oh man, do i suck at updating lately!  it's not that NOTHING has been going on, it's just that i haven't cared to updated at all.  also, i'm relatively bored with the Mystery Lyric Game already.  last time it was an immediate hit, drawing responses from all corners of the globe; now i'll get maybe two responses per lyric.  i'll try it for a few more lyrics, but if nothing picks up it'll be soyanara!

so what's been going on with me, you ask?  let's see...not much out of the ordinary, unfortunately.  work and class, mostly.  i went home a few weeks ago to help clean out my bedroom for the upcoming "basement remodel 2005" that my parents are having.  the weekend after that i went to birmingham with abbey to hang with her fam for a bit, which was also fun.  see what i mean though?  the "unusual" things that have been going on lately aren't even that exciting!  oh well, it'll pick up, i'm sure.  it always does.

i DO, actually, have some interesting news!  i recently became an uncle!  my older sister, patrushka, and her husband rich had their first child, Phillip James on valentine's day!  they tell me he's a big baby (9#, 2oz), but he looked pretty tiny to me.  abbey and i went to kalamazoo on monday to visit them in the hospital, my dad of course took a million pictures.  i don't have any yet but when i get some i'll post them up for anyone who cares to see.
as monday was valentine's day, abbey and i went out and had a lovely dinner at the Golden Rose, on okemos road... very good food, nice atmosphere, etc etc, i highly reccomend it.  other than the strangeness of going to see a little baby all afternoon, it was a very nice valentine's day.

welp, on to the "possibly doomed" Mystery Lyric Game!  this one was very, very easy...which may have been why i only got a few responses!  here's the lyric:
Don't know how you do the voodoo that you do
So well it's a spell, hell, makes me wanna...
the answer of course, is SALT & PEPPA - SHOOP!  off the album Very Necessary.  again, this was super easy, so i'm hoping that the responses were few b/c everyone thought that the lyric had been guessed already.
kimmy was the first to guess, but she was way off!  she guessed ashleigh simpson - la la, and even quoted the whole dang chorus!  wow, way off.  todd was the first correct answerer, so he'll get 10 points.  hemkaii also guessed, but was too late by about 5 hours.  so here's the new standings:

bobby - 21
todd - 11
johnny - 10
sarah - 10
me - 6 (bonus points from bobby)
hawks - 1
steph - 1

ho, HO!  see how easily todd moved from 5th to 2nd in only one lyric?  that's right, you can too!  so keep guessing and keep this game alive!  until next time, i'm your host, William Quilliam.

PEACE OUT!
